7 Ways to Incorporate 2018’s Color of the Year Into your Home

7 Ways to Incorporate 2018’s Color of the Year Into your Home

The future is purple. Technically it is a vibrant “ultra violet” according to PANTONE – the design industries’ top dog on color authority.

Each year, the color mega house takes cues from society (past events, overall societal moods, attitudes on the next year) and confers with other leading color standard groups across the globe to determine a single color for the upcoming year that is to represent us all. Once published, the color of choice is guaranteed to be everywhere, in every facet of the creative or design realm. From the runway to the most used paint colors in 2018, ultra violet will be beating down everyone’s doors.

A glamorous and mysterious hue, the color of the year hints to a spiritual and explorative 2018. From PANTONE’S website, the color can only be described as “Complex and contemplative” suggesting “the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.”  The vivid and moody shade is illustrative of the growth and limitless boundaries to come in 2018 and signals for us all to break our creative barriers and pursue a world beyond our norms.

A brilliant shade that embodies endless opportunity, ultra violet can be paired with most nearly every hue on the color wheel. Couple with greys, blacks and creams to evoke a sense of mystery or pair with other varying shades of purples and pinks to tap into your inner playfulness. One of our favorite combinations is ultra violet against deep reds and bright oranges and golds, creating a sunset for a color focal point. Or, use the reflective hue as your center in an otherwise calm, serene room with soft creams and pale greens.  Regardless of your accenting shades, the color of the year is sure to be an invigorating and assertive hue pushing you to achieve greater limits.

Should you love ultra violet, take notes from our designers on how to incorporate it into your own space:

Accent Pieces

Make use of the world’s most versatile accent pieces and swap out the throw pillows and blankets.  A pop of purple against a grey or white sofa will be just the thing to liven up any living room. See our own show room pick here. Or, we love these bold prints from Loloi Rugs. Decorate your table top in style with a few violet inspired accent pieces. Perfect for the gold lover, this intriguing Omari Sculpture from Arteriors Home captured our attention. For a more artistic scene, accentuate your living room or dining room with this vibrant print from Curated Kravet.

Add in a Big, Furniture Sized Way

Nothing says you love the color of the year more than a bold furniture addition to your design in the deep violet hue. Zuo modern makes these dining chairs for the modern, violet lovers.  For a little less splash, we found these antique gold side tables with a subtle node to the color atop.

Light in Style

For a milder addition of the hue, try adding it to your design in your lighting or candles. Arteriors Home has the most beautifully crafted table lamp with a light violet base to compliment nearly any room design.

Represent Ultra Violet Underfoot

For a bolder entrance to the hue, place a mysterious, festive rug in the foyer or underfoot in the living room. We love these designs from Feizy and Curated Kravet.  For an even wilder addition – add this deep purple sheepskin to your child’s bedroom or your cozy reading nook.

Fabric

Piece your way to an ultra violet room by selecting fabrics that speak the hue. Choose to create a dream upholstered piece or drapery from a find like this at Duralee. Two side chairs in the deep purple against a neutral cream room palette will be an invigorating addition. Bold, modern and beautiful.

Creating a Focal Point

Create a focal point in any room by painting one wall in the violet shade. Ultra violet is a perfect pairing to the inside of weathered white bookcases or as a backdrop to a rustic brick fireplace. The hue would even be a welcomed shade to an entry way or powder room as it would be unexpected and enticing. This African Violet color from Sherwin–Williams is as close to the actual hue as you can get. We also have seen some of the most beautifully designed kitchens and offices representing the color of the year. Check out this home office from Cabinetry by Decora with purple custom cabinets – the workflow is perpetually endless in this fun filled design.

Flora and Greenery

For the most accessible design, incorporate the color of the year into your home by simply adding in floral arrangements that match. An easy addition to nearly every room, these Hyacinth Arrangements or Allium Flower Stems from New Growth Designs will stun every time.

For more inspiration, be sure to follow along throughout the year. We will be sharing more ultra violet designs we love and ways to incorporate them into your own homes.
